Title: What a day.
Post by: smokeasaurus on April 26, 2017, 08:05:34 PM
Well, for the last couple of years we have had some slim pickins, but more so since last year. We could not find adequate employment on the mountain so we high tailed it to the Diamond Valley in the Inland Empire and things are looking up. We just might find that clearing in the forest.

Now many of you might not know this but I was probably the first guy around here to have a Pit Barrel Cooker. I let Tim have Noahs information and Pit Barrel Cooker has been one of our beloved forum sponsors for many years now.

A low point for me was when I had borrowed some money from a neighbor on the mountain and I could not pay him back when we left the mountain.

He gladly took my 5 year old PBC for payment.

So a couple days ago when we got home and there was a brand new PBC all boxed up sitting on my front porch, I was a happy camper.

It just got better. Anything on the PBC site you could add to the shopping cart, Wendy did!!  Quite a Birthday. 8) 8)

So we run to Staters to get some meat and tri tips are 2.99 a lb..........and then it gets better.......................

I go to the beer section and open the door to grab a 30 pak of Busch and then I see them:

The "nectar of the Gods"
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/20170425_132148_zpsfettj8xx.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/20170425_132148_zpsfettj8xx.jpg.html)

So we run home and i finally get to make a marinade I saw on Smoker Pete site: Fagundes seasoning and Hamms beer.........what a nice marinade

I quickly realized the split grate needs to be upside down....almost lost the lobster tails
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/20170425_174223_zpsft5ed96i.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/20170425_174223_zpsft5ed96i.jpg.html)

After the 45 minute cook, I added the PBC designed grill grates (I told you Wendy bought everything on the site)
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/20170425_184458_zps7onk6nzx.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/20170425_184458_zps7onk6nzx.jpg.html)

Wendy made some wine/mushroom gravy and we chowed
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/20170425_190744_zpsn2jilmw2.jpg) (http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/s1cott11/media/20170425_190744_zpsn2jilmw2.jpg.html)

It is so nice to have a PBC again...I felt nekked  :o

Wendy has informed me that I will be not getting a pellet grill anytime soon. She prefers charcoal.

She would like to know when PBC is going to make a horizontal grill, she says they could call it a PBG......Pit Barrel Grill  ;) ;)

Hey, it could happen

I always felt that the charcoal kissed food would re-enter Smoke's life. Hell we all know an old dog always comes back home!

Congrats Smoke!

I tell ya Pappy, Wendy flat out told me she likes charcoal. I do to. We are out on the road most of the day visiting patients. I need to eventually hunt something down so I can toss some meat in before we go on her route.

Yeah, I kept 4 bags of Kingsford. What I meant to convey in my other post, was that I was done searching for the perfect charcoal grill/smoker.......funds ran out and was a little jaded at some of my latest attempts. Kingsford is such a part of my DNA, I can't stay away for too long........I start shaking  ;)

Glad you grabbed those Tri Tips. Glad you got a Staters in the Antelope Valley...they pretty much rule the roost in the Inland Empire.......you have to look long and hard for a Vons or Ralphs or Albertsons.......yet it seems like there is a Staters on every corner down here

We have the PK and the PBC for charcoal.  Our Blackstone griddle rusted out. Those 3 mountain winters with it covered in snow sure sped up its ageing process  :(

We are waiting for the summer sales for a small electric smoker, so we can come home to some smoked grub when out on the road. Nothing fancy, MES usually are priced pretty low for the sales.......

Hopefully later this year we can grab another flat top grill because they sure are a bunch of fun to cook on and we used ours a bunch.

I have been using gas the last 15 years as my kids were young but I am returning to my 18.5 Weber more in the last couple of years.

As far as the griddle for $69.00 the sizzle-Q was a good deal for me in that I can use it on my tailgate gasser or my Home gasser.

Sounds like you have a good plan....

I picked it up at an estate sale. I work for them from time to time. I worked the entire sale for it for payment. I sold it for some needed funds.

I see.  I thought I saw on FB that you had bought it but then I never saw mention of it again.  I thought maybe I was seeing things. LOL.  Enjoy your new PBC.  I have not used mine in quite a while.  I guess I need to get it out at some point.

It still had the Made in the USA label tied to it. They found it while setting up the sale inside the smoking chamber and had it re-tied to the handle. It is amazing some of the old ques we find at these sales.

There was an old vintage gasser that I really wanted but it was hooked up to natural gas through the house so we couldn't sell it...............
