Title: Grill Mat
Post by: MJSBBQ on May 30, 2017, 06:00:32 PM
Has anyone had any experience with any type of grill mat? I am thinking about using one for a boat that has an electric grill to keep the mess down. I am not thinking about using it on any of my home grills.

On the boat, the grilling is very simple--burgers--hot dogs--veggies--bacon and an occasional steak.

I saw one on a boat this weekend, but the person was not around, so I couldn't ask him about. It looked like a good idea for some basic grilling to keep the mess down a bit.

Anyone ever use one and had any type of good results?

I've used a green mountain grill g-mat for a couple of months. There are holes in it but it works well for cooking things that you don't want to stick to or fall through the cooking grates. I think they are rated up 400 - 450 degrees. I've used it on both a pellet and Kamado grill with good results. If you look under the pellet grill cooking section I posted a pork chop cook a few days ago. In that post you can see a pic of me using the mat for Brussels Sprout I actually was grilling on the Kamado while the chops were on the pellet grill.

What kind of grill mat are you talking about?

The kind that goes under the grill to catch grease drips, or the kind that go on the cooking grates?

I use the Island Grillstone..I won one from them on FB..when done using it, when it's cool. just turn it over and start again..that cleans it. It's made from a lava rock.    .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

The grill is a generic electric grill. I was thinking of putting the mat on top of the grate.
