Title: Best tasting Mayo
Post by: Pappymn on July 25, 2017, 08:30:03 PM
Best of my knowledge we only have Hellman's here in Minnesota.  We are not allowed the finer things here.

Thought this article was interesting.  I guess all of the best food is in the South.

Duke's is my go to...*BUT*......

YOU can make better tasting mayo yourself....Seriously it is one of the easiest condiments to make and you can customize it by adding different flavoring ingredients...Heck "aoli" is just mayo with something else added in.....

SO - how about some recipes for the best mayo YOU have made folks? ;) ;D

We only had Hellmans or Kraft for ages. I definitely preferred Hellmans. Lately Walmart had some Dukes so tried it, tastes like Hellmans to me. I am too lazy to make my own Tee!! Don

I started on Duke's about a year ago when it was on sale BOGO .   Never looked back.  It's great.

Blue Plate is my favorite. Dukes is great! I cant get Blue Plate in the hills of NC. Never tired making my own - sounds like fun though!

I grew up eating Miracle Whip, & I still prefer it to mayo. Same with V.
I doubt that we have ever bought a jar of mayo in our 32 years together.

Now I never said I had a sophisticated palate, I just know what I like. :D :D :D

When I lived on the west coast we used Best Foods, which I have been told and have read is Hellman's east of the Rockies. BUT, once
I moved to Georgia we tried Duke's and it is our go to mayo now. We have bought some Hellman's here on sale, but we both prefer
Dukes!

As far as making my own, NOPE, not as long as Duke's in stock and besides I is too lazy... 8)

Here on the West Coast I used to use Best Foods but years ago I tried the Costco brand (Kirkland) mayo cause it's less expensive and it tastes fine to us.

A little $ and a little $ there ... before you know it, it adds up to real $$   8)

Blue Plate, hands down.  Duke's as plan "B" if I can't find Blue Plate.

Blue Plate was also chosen by Cooks Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen a few years back.

I must be the oddball of the group (no need to confirm) but I am not a Duke's fan. I like Blue Plate or Hellman's. I'll do Kraft even, never store brands unless I am making potato salad or coleslaw because there are so many other flavors it's hard to tell. For sandwiches though, it's got to be Hellman's or Blue Plate. I can't do Miracle Whip. Not my cup of tea at all.

Intersesting info about Miricle Whip Dressing       https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/shopping-storing/food/miracle-whip-mayonnaise

Bottom line . It's not up to the standards of highfalutin mayo,  :D

If you like it ....enjoy it.

I guess that I started off on Miracle Whip as a youngster, that was our benchmark as that was what our mother always bought. Somewhere as a young adult I tried Hellman's and I was sold. To me it had a "more adult taste" to it. It became the new benchmark taste until we started making our own. As Tim stated when making homemade you can add so many different flavors. I might add that you haven't lived until you have a good potato salad moistened with homemade Cajun mayo!

Have you heard of KEWPIE mayo? Nothing store bought comes close.
Best Mayo is the fresh one that you whip up in 2 minutes at home.
