Title: 1st Tri-Tip
Post by: RAD on April 27, 2013, 07:32:21 AM
I found a Tri-Tip at publics yesterday (Finally) and decided it would make a good dinner. I asked the butcher if they had any and he said “Oh, that west coast cut of meat, yes we just started carrying them”.
It was already cut into steak pieces, I would have rather had a whole one, but you get what you get.

The sale price was $6.99/LB. Is that the average prices? Kind-of high in my opinion, making it around $9/lb at regular price.

I seared the steaks in a cast iron skillet for a couple minutes and added a spud to the plate. The tri is a very tasty cut of meat and very tender and juicy. I will be getting this again but will wait for a whole tip next time, if I can find one.

Around here (N Texas), I normally get them for $4.99/lb (for a whole one) and there are plenty of areas where they are even cheaper.  Price on that might have been a bit high since it was cut.

Rad tell that butcher to keep a whole one for you. Even ask maybe if you can order one.

Those Tri-tip steaks look to be cooked just right ;)

Looks good. I've seen one tri-tip down here where at. It was at Walmart. Must have come in accidentally. I look every time I go and at different stores also. Nothing.

That's what we pay everyday at Costco for Tri. They usually have whole and cut. No idea why the cut them ;)

Looks good RAD, I am going to Publix today and see if they have any that have not be cut yet. If you have a Piggly Wiggly near you check them out. There is one Pig here in the Birmingham area that carries them sometime.

That is a great cut of meat. I can see why it gets so much attention here. Not feeling too bad for paying the price after a couple of price post so I am going to see if I can get a whole one today.
