Title: Just ordered a Pit Barrel
Post by: lctrcbddha on April 07, 2014, 03:44:00 PM
Hi all, I'm new here.

I just ordered a Pit Barrel Cooker.  I do quite a bit of indoor cooking (my wife and I have a deal - I do all the cooking, she does all the cleaning).  But my only outdoor cooking to date has been on a propane grill.

I love all forms of BBQ - all styles, all regions.  But I'm especially partial to East Carolina pulled pork, Memphis dry ribs, and Texas brisket.

This is going to be an adventure :)

Nothing wrong with a gasser , but food cooked over charcoal & wood is better ::)
This is an almost idiot proof way to cook BBQ!

First of all, welcome from NC.  I have a PBC and love it.  My wife insists that if I am cooking wings, they must be on the PBC.  Yes, dear!  You'll love everything you cook on it.

Welcome from South Arkansas. You can learn a LOT on here. I do a lot of grilling, and have learned a lot about smoking the "low and slow" method. Have fun and ENJOY the site  ;)

Welcome from Texas, my wife and I have the same deal and it works out great for us as well as providing job security for me as she has forgotten how to cook after all these years. ;)

Welcome!

I'll have to agree with Art (ACW3) that chicken is the family favorite that comes from my PBC.  But, it'll do a lot of other things well, to.  Enjoy the forum and don't be shy if you need any help getting oriented to your new cooker.

Thanks everyone!

I'm in Virginia.

One of my wife's favorite meals is whole oven-roasted chicken.  I suspect that's going to be replaced by whole pit-barreled chicken ;)

Look at Noah's video for chicken on the Pit Barrel site.  He cuts them down the middle with a bread knife then seasons and hangs the halves.  I've done this at least a dozen times, always with superb results.  All I've varied is the rub.  I've never done a whole bird in the PBC so I don't know how that may affect the cook.
