Hello from Canton, GA everybody. I found this site while looking for info on the Pit Barrel Cooker, as it was on the short list of smokers/cookers that I was considering (and could afford). I love my Weber kettle, but wanted something that was a little less work to maintain long cooks on. After reading some of the opinions of PBC owners here and a couple of other forums, I was convinced. It's one thing to read a professional review of a product, but another thing to hear the opinions of regular guys and gals who actually use them. It was pretty hard to find any complaints from someone who actually owned and cooked on PBCs.
Well, long story short, I got a call from the wife earlier today letting me know that my new PBC was delivered to our doorstep. Can't wait to light it up!
Any suggestions on a quick first cook? My first longer cook will have to wait until the weekend, when I'm going to hang some ribs...
Thanks!

Welcome! I'm very new here myself, and found the site for the same reason (PBC).
I haven't been able to fire mine up yet, due to backorder. I'm planning chicken for my first "quick" cook - even ordered some Mo-Rockin' rub for it :D

Welcome from NC. I bought my PBC a while back. As I recall, the first thing I cooked was chicken wings. Best wings I have cooked. Wife insists that when it's wing time, they get cooked on the PBC.

Glad to have you here GG!
And I will tell you that chicken cooked in the PBC is the best I have ever made - or tasted! Whole roasting hen, split lengthwise, rubbed down with any rub you like - and hung not he hooks. UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!!!!

Thanks everybody! I was leaning towards chicken and it sounds like that is the way to go. Going to fire it up for the first time tomorrow after work. Can't wait!

Welcome from Southern California and a fellow PBC owner here!
Your gonna love your PBC. As others have stated chicken is a great first cook! The best chicken cooker IMHO hands down.
And some of the best customer support you will find anywhere.
Let us know if you got any questions and post pictures/details of your first cook.

Thanks muebe, I have seen nothing but great things about the customer service.
I will try to get pics of the cook and finished product. My wife wont be home until dinner time tomorrow so it will just be me and our two year old during the cook. That means prep pics may be tough depending on how much of a handful he is being. Will definitely snap a couple of the finished product though, unless it is a disaster ...

A Big Big Welcome from Manitoba Canada ;D
I have no idea about the type of cooker your looking at but the First Cook must be BACON. If not then you will upset the gods :(

Welcome from middle Georgia - Warner Robins area (Byron in particular), near Macon on I-75 South or I-75 North, depending on which way you're heading.
Anyway...glad you're on board. You're gonna love the PBC.

Here's another NC welcome for you ;D
About the only way you can mess up cooking anything in a PBC is to have it come "unhooked" and fall down into the fire.

Go to the section on member gatherings and events where you can read about a Gathering we have been having for the last three years at Clarks Hill Lake outside of Augusta. We would love to have you. It'll be in the last week in September. All the details are there. If you have any questions just ask. Dee

Greetings from a fellow "Newbie" to the site. This is a great site. I found it the same way - searching for info to help me make a decision on pellet grills. Had it down to Yoder and Blazin Grill Works - thanks to a lot of great feedback I am waiting for my Grand Slam Pro to ship - hoping for next week so I can get smokin'
Enjoy your smoker -post some pics :)
