My New Inside Toy
« Reply #-1 on: February 22, 2015, 01:34:33 PM »
Just got a new pressure cooker to replace my Fagor 8qt. cooker. Nothing is really wrong with it, and Fagor makes very good pressure cookers, but mine has a non-stick lining and we are replacing all of our non-stick cookware as deals occur.  ;)  This new addition is an 8 liter Kuhn-Rikon Duromatic. The grandkids will probably inherit it...if we get any! :D
Anyway, dying to give it a test run...... This work week no doubt!

Yeah RAD, we think it's a wise thing to do. And so far with good choices, we don't miss the convenience of non-stick.

In most cases I like to use the original non-stick pans made of cast iron.

Art, some of the chemicals used in the process of making non-stick nonstick, are highly toxic. That is why the "industry" tells you to replace if any scratches appear in cookware. When using non-stick the lining is slowly scraped into the food over many, many cooks. We are trying to be healthier and we both enjoy cooking, so we thought this was an area to change.

Thanks now what to do.

All our cookware is stainless 18/10, 304 or cast iron other than our 4 gallon chili pot which is non-stick.

Been unable to cook our family size chili recipe in anything but non-stick lined without it it sticking and burning.

Other than chili I rather use and do use non stick becasue it cooks better but never thought of it for health reason.

I use enameled cast iron for chili. My pot is huge and doesn't stick

That would be great.
How many gallons does your enameled cast iron pot hold?

15 1/2 quart, so just shy of 4 gallons. Le Creuset is the maker. Bought it new on ebay years ago. I love it!  Weighs as much as a Buick. :)

Just show common sense.
While no one can promise there's no risk, as long as you don't overheat the pans the risk is low.
While I cook with cast iron or stainless steel I still have a 10 in fry pan for cooking egg!
