I pretty much follow Davids and Dons plan.
Also, I burn the stuff off once in a while and clean it pretty good. I try to keep them oiled in between cooks if I'm not going to use it for a couple days. (Rare) But like this weekend we will be out of town so it won't get used.
So I'll spray the grid and emitter pan with oil.
Next week when I fire it up I'll let that smoke off and will be back in normal daily mode.
Now my Brother in Law ..... He is renting a place that has a grill with Grill Grates or something very similar on it. I cannot get him to let them season a little. He cleans the crap out of them every time. And in turn things stick as if you welded them to it. And that's a real pain as much fish as we cook.(Yes I oil the skin)...
I told him to just leave the top open and let the neighborhood cats clean it...
