Limburger, Braunschweiger & Onion on Rye
« Reply #-1 on: September 10, 2016, 09:24:50 PM »
Sept 10 2016

Gene (Hikerman) started me on this limburger kick! I wanted some of the brick that he gets that is only made in Wisc., Country Castle brand. I found some I think at a Meijer’s store. Now I wanted some good Braunschweiger to go with it.

I can get Oscar Myers locally but wanted to try and find some Usingers; I always liked it. I couldn’t find Usingers but found some called Jones. It had bacon added so that sounded interesting to me.

Tonight was a help yourself night so I decided to have my sandwich of limburger, Braunschweiger and sweet Vidalia onion on rye with Maille mustard. I had a small bowl of my andouille bean soup along with it, and a beer!

Tasted mighty good! I couldn’t taste the bacon in my sandwich so had to eat a plain slice. It was there but kind of feint and I’d just as soon have just plain Braunschweiger.

Glad you finally got some good stuff Don!  ???
I truly never thought that I would ever try Limburger let alone like it!
We have a sign in the family room that says, " Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage."
I guess my life expanded with my first taste! Or something did! ???

Grew up in Limburger country but for me the best thing to do with it was to put a chunk on someone's car heater.    ;D ;D ;D

My dad loved Limburger, but I had to hold my nose whenever I opened the fridge. I can now enjoy some of those very ripe, fragrant cheese like Epoisse, but haven't yet gotten around to loving Limburger.

I do love Braunschweiger though, particularly on dark, thin, heavy German bread with lots of mayo and sweet relish.

Conformity is the last refuge of the unimaginative.
