Lumber Jack pellets

Just found a fairly local source for lumber jack and cooking pellets.com pellets at a reasonable price and am curious what flavors you prefer and might recommend picking up. I ordered a bag each of perfect blend and hickory from cooking pellets when I first got my mak. Perfect blend didn't lend much flavor, but have really been liking the hickory. Tastes much more like real BBQ! Going to grab some more hickory but wanted to grab some other varieties from lumber jack as well to try. What have you liked best and what's your go to pellet?

I like their Oak. You can use Oak or hickory  as a base and mix fruit pellets (cherry, apple) in for a different flavor profile on different cooks.

I use lumberjack, and I honestly can't taste the difference in different pellets.

Just got off the phone with them and I'm going to get another 2 cooking pellets hickory, L.J. h-o-c, m-o-c, pecan, and cherry. They are about a 45+ min drive from me, but they have family coming up this way and I'm going to meet them! 200# for $100, best deal I have been able to find. Looks like I'm stocked up for a while! Wife and I are taking the week after this coming off and plan to do a lot of BBQ with the new MAK so this is perfect. Going to have some fun.

Truth!

I use CookinPellets 'Perfect Mix' and their 100% Hickory most of the time.   For Lumberjack pellets, I like their MHC blend.

We also did a Costco run last week so the freezer is packed and we have a $100 gift certificate to the local butcher as well....it's gonna be a good week! Was just looking and looks like I have roughly 300# of pellets all together so guess I have no excuses. Need to figure out what to do for storage containers once open. Have seen some good ideas just need to wonder around home depot or somewhere and see what they have. I have really liked the cooking pellets hickory and feel it will be my go to but wanted to try other varieties before I find myself locked into the same thing all the time. Think we are going to do some spare ribs tomorrow and am going to try the OHC mix. MHC sounds good too.....choices!

I have about 650 to 700 pounds of almost all the flavors from LJ.  Several are just going to be used in a smoking tube for doing cheese when it gets cold again.  I have Mexican Blend, Italian Blend and a Bordeaux flavored pellets just for cheese.

I like them a lot.  I have sponsored several major buys of LJ pellets in the past.  My last order was 6,000 pounds.  My wife started objecting to me putting all those pellets on our credit card.  I wonder why?  Needless to say, I haven't ordered any recently.  The per pound price when buying in bulk, and as a dealer, really brings the price down.

Cooking Pellets Perfect Mix is a good all-around pellet blend for cooking pretty much anything.

Lumber Jack:

First, what Lumber Jack flavors do they have available? Some local dealers only carry the basic flavors.

My go-to flavors are:

> 100% Oak
> 100% Hickory
> !00% Apple

I buy 1 bag of oak for each bag of Apple or Hickory and blend them 50/50 with the Oak.  It burns more efficiently with a good hickory or Apple flavor, and a lot less ash than straight flavorwood.

For Pork Shoulders a 25% Hickory/ 25% Apple/ 50% oak blend is a really nice!

Other Lumber Jack flavors I like:

> "Competition Blend"  (formerly called MHC blend) is a blend of Maple, Hickory & Cherry and a good for anything you might want to cook.  This blend is EXCELLENT for smoking sausage!

> "CharBlend-Hickory "  This is a relatively new pellet flavor which has charcoal blended into it. I really like this pellet for grilling steaks, burgers, shrimp and such!

Hope this helps!

Cliff

I was using a travel points card.  It all came down to the timing on the orders.  I should have asked for the CFO's permission, I guess.

I remember years back picking up pellets in a parking lot in Lexington after a BBQ Crawl.
Look like some a drug deal going down ;D and I am surprised the police did not stop by.

Funny, I thought the same thing when they pulled up. It was 2 ladies, a mom and daughter, and the mom pulls up next to me and asks if I'm looking for pellets. Wonder what someone would think if a couple ladies pulled up and asked that and it was the wrong person?! Show me the money and I'll show you the pellets.....kinda funny!

I remember that scene as well.  We did get a good laugh out of it, though.
