I FINALLY bought an air fryer
« Reply #-1 on: May 05, 2018, 11:38:56 PM »
Ok, I gave in....  I bought an air fryer.

JC Penney had their "Cooks" branded 2.5 liter model for $25.96 out the door after taxes with a sale price, plus discount coupon, plus $20 prepaid VISA card rebate.  It sounds a little small, but it's really not.  Should be plenty for the 2 of us.  The basket is 7"x7 3/8x 3 3/4".  My biggest concern and hesitation on buying one before is the ones I've seen (the 5.3 and 6 liter models) are pretty dang big.  Our counter space is already limited.  This one seems to fit that just right niche. A tad bigger than a 12 cup coffee maker.  So the Blendtec Wildside blender has been booted off the counter (it was an occasional use item and this should be much more frequently used).  Nice and simple with only 2 controls, time & temp.

Besides, for $25 I can dip my toes in the air fryer pond and if really need a bigger one, upgrade later.

IMO the air fryer deserves a home of it's own on the counter.
You will probably use it a lot.

No photos, but I used it with breakfast this morning.

I had some sausage links that were sort of like small kielbasa breakfast sausage and figured those would work great in the air fryer.  Normally I do these up in a pan.  Pre-cut them, hit with a little EVOO and sprinkle of my favorite GP rub. Then shook it all up in the container I had the sausage in to distribute.  Pre-heated the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 325 while I made coffee and gathered the other items for breakfast. Simply dumpped them into the air fryer basket and gave them 2 shakes over the next 8 to 10 minutes or so (while the eggs cooked).

Ended up with nice and evenly air fried sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese, yogurt, and 2 pieces of toast and called it breakfast.  Oh yeah, I also had freshly ground Blue Mountain coffee (the last of my 100% blue mountain stash).   And best part, the basket and basket base are top rack dish washer cleanable.

I will say the sausage were much more evenly browned than when I just shuffle them around in a pan.  And they were not sitting in the oil/grease like they would be in a pan. I did not even drain them on a paper towel today.  I'm sold......
