Smitty's in Lockhart, TX
« Reply #-1 on: December 24, 2011, 04:05:31 PM »
Took a little road trip to Lockhart, Tx for lunch a couple of days ago. It was kinda on the way to where I was going (only 156 miles out of the way). I went to Smitty's, which is probably known as the most famous and probably the best bbq joint in Texas. It is real pit bbq. I don't order  brisket there because they smoke prime rib just like the brisket and it is absolutely delicious. I ordered a pound of it. I also ordered 4 links of sausage (85% beef and 15% pork) and a pound of ribs. There was enough left over for another meal yesterday. Talk about delicious bbq.  I bought a frozen box of 25 links of sausage to put in the freezer for a rainy day. I wish all of you could try this place out. If you're ever in Texas and find your way to Smitty's, let me know and I will meet you there. It is only 156 miles.

Merry Christmas, Cousin Jack. I'm doing the prime rib tomorrow. Looking forward to it. I really wish we could find that sausage in Houston. It would save a lot of gas. Have a great holiday season.

Tough call among Smitty's, Black's & Kreuz.  Wish I could make that decision more often.

Don - I still dream about the Smitty's sausage you brought to the Fall Gathering.
I saw a "showdown" on on of the food channels the other day between Smitty's and Kreuz.  Sure brought back memories fellas......

Yep - I am indeed.
Spring may yield a road trip your way. I am fit to be tied for Tex Mex, Texas BBQ,

And, I have been watchin what Sumlin has done at U of H....He is a real coach. Might make for a better A&M team. But I have to tell you - the SEC is NOT the same style of football, and it is IMHO a tougher conference overall than the Big 12. Gonna be interesting for sure.

Tim, I saw that showdown, also. If I recall, Kreuz won. I think that both places taste pretty much the same. They should since it's all one big family that kind of split apart. One of the judges on that show, Barbeque Bob Cole, is a DJ on KVET radio in Austin where he teamed up with a friend of mine, Sammy Allred of the Geezinslaw brothers. Their show was called Sam and Bob in the morning. Pretty funny country talk radio.

Old thread, new thoughts from a newbie.  ::) Did all three in one day on a bbq Texas crawl, this spring(2012). There was about 10 of us. Brisket, ribs, sausages, and fixins. Quite a day of sampling. General consensus? Kreuz, on brisket, beans, and especially, ribs. Smitty's had great sausage. After that cornucopia, we all went looking for CFS!  :P

Will hit that one next trip, hopefully. ;)  Love prime rib. Ever had one at Durgin Park Restaurant in Boston? Watch out for the waitresses, they'll throw a towel at you! :o

San Antonio is one of our favorite getaway spots. We always time our departure from home to arrive at Smitty's for lunch along the way down or on our way back home. Be sure to take a good look at the old hallway going to the pits for the chains that used to have knives attached to them
