RV trips in the west - Grand Cayon rail ride
« Reply #-1 on: September 17, 2013, 01:51:37 AM »
I'd read about the vintage rail trip into Grand Canyon, but had never tried it - this summer we did, and it was well worth it if you only want to spend a few hours in the canyon.  We've made countless trips to the canyon in the past 20 years, so the 3 hour stay was just about right.

The trip started with a western gunfight reenactment.

We opted for the last car in the train, which allowed one to stand on the back deck

The view cars were also really nice - our ticket allowed us to travel the entire train

No wonder there is a book titled "Death in Grand Canyon" which is filled with accounts of foolish people that make fatal mistakes, such as the guy that was trying to take the perfect picture of the Tovar, and kept backing up until he sailed off the edge

It was a beautiful sunny day, with almost perfect temperature

Fantastic dress

The ride back offered plenty of snack items as well as Champagne

Of course, there was the requisite hold-up

Back at home, safe and sound

Thanks for the comments!

Has anyone done the Durango to Silverton?  That's another train trip I'd like to make (love trains, especially the old steamers)
