Brisket Tamales
« Reply #-1 on: October 29, 2013, 08:30:35 PM »
I decided to use the last of my leftover brisket to make tamales all by myself first time ever. I kind of used nepas's mom's recipe with some web recipes mixed in since I did not start from scratch (uncooked meat).

left over brisket

Shredded

The meat all seasoned up for tamales, still had that great smokey flavor

Soaking the corn Husks

Mixed the Masa

A little lard that I whipped for the Masa

I did get better at wrapping these things as I went along

Getting the steamer ready and dinner in a hour :)

more work than I had anticipated but hope to reap the rewards ;)

Looking wonderful, Keymaster! A lot of work, but looks like it is well worth it.

Wow those look good, Key!   ... and a novel way to use brisket

I've been wanting to make tamales for about 6 months now - even purchased masa and husks the last time we were in a Mexican grocery store; both are sitting in the pantry right now  ;D

Those corn husks were hard to find, went to Safeway, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyers and finally found them at Winco foods.
