Campfire Grill, Townsend, TN

Four of us stopped here for a late lunch last Thursday afternoon.  This was the top rated place to eat (according to Trip Advisor) in the Pigeon Forge area of TN.  We can see why.  I met the chief cook and bottle washer, Jason Thurston, and spent some time chatting with him.  Our friends ordered the fish tacos.  They tasted as good as they looked.  My wife ordered a beef burrito and she could only eat half of it.  I ordered the pulled pork taco with apple and peach salsa.  It was fantastic!  I would have described the salsa more like a chutney than a salsa for consistency.  I completely zoned out when the food came because I was starved.  Totally forgot to take pictures.  I was offered a sample of one of their new dishes, a beer battered slice of avocado.  OMG!!  It literally melted in your mouth.  I need to try to duplicate this delight.

Here are the few photos I did manage to take.

Wow that does sound good! Their prices look really reasonable too.

I think I remember seeing that place last month. We go through Townsend on the way to the Smokies to do our yearly hiking in the mountains. Next year I will definitely stop in and chow!

The Campfire Grill is actually part of a gas station!  I went to a really good French-style restaurant that was part of a gas station in Franklin, NC.  Don't judge the book by its cover.

Looks like my kind of place - there is something warm about yellow/red/orange menus that draws me in
