Kings Mountain, NC

Billy Merrill, his son Robert and I are cooking this one starting this afternoon.  Weather looks good, just a little cool.  Its good to get back into the swing of things but having a contest the day before Easter really stacks the activities.  Monday will definitely be a day of rest.

Billy is doing Bananas Foster for our dessert entry tonight and I'll do some mac and cheese for the Anything But competition.  They're doing Friday events "show" style with judges on site -- hate that.  Too much like MBN where the show detracts from the food.  For the main event tomorrow, Billy will cook the butt and brisket and I'll do the ribs and chicken.  We got some walks last year.  And, of course, we'll set the usual lofty goal of not finishing DAL  ;D

Update:  Weather turned to heavy rain Friday evening and it will continue all day.  I'm wearing mud boots.

Billy's Bananas Foster was a major hit with the judges from what we could see by reactions.  You never know on dessert and Anything But categories because judges are locals, not certified.  We're very hopeful for a walk on that one, though.  Film at eleven . . .

I'll try to post box pics next week.

(Sunday morning after 12 hours of sleep)

Billy won the dessert comp.  I finished 7th in Chicken.  Billy got 5th in Pork and I took 2nd in Ribs.  We finished 3rd in the field of 56, missing Reserve Grand Champion by 3 points!  We were wet and miserable but the results sort of took care of our attitudes and the weather  ;D
