Straw Bale Gardening
« Reply #-1 on: July 04, 2014, 08:05:17 AM »
Our  local paper, The Augusta Chronicle, had an article in today's paper about using straw bales rather than soil in which to plant vegetables.

I googled "Straw Bale Gardening" and came up with some interesting info.  Y'all may want to check it out if you are interested in growing things other than younguns.

Great idea. In the fall a lot of us who live out in the country will cover our septic tanks with straw just in case we don,t get a lot of snow before the cold weather sets in. Nothing worse than a frozen septic field. So this would be good for veggies and just leave the left over cover of straw for winter protection :)

Dee:  When I moved to South Georgia several years back, I found out what pine straw was for the first time.  As you know, everyone uses it for ground mulch in their yards instead of the typical wood mulch.  Neat stuff.
