El Diablo Mustard
« Reply #-1 on: May 12, 2014, 09:35:54 PM »
I recently received a package of assorted hot and spicy mustards from a friend....

The package contained 6 of their flavored varieties. Habanero(pictured), Jalapeño, Roasted Chipotle, Mango, Texas Chili, and Steakhouse.

I got a chance to try them all finally. These mustards taste great. The Habanero and Jalapeño are not for the faint of heart but the others are spicy but mild. If you like the heat the Habanero and Jalapeño will provide what you need. They are not over the top hot but are pretty intense. The heat combines well with the bold mustard.

The Roasted Chipotle is also good with a slight heat.

Now the Mango I really like! It has a slight sweetness that goes well with the mustard. I did a 50/50 mix with the Habanero then put it on a Rueben. The two really complemented each other.

The Texas chili is good. Has a light chili flavor.

Now the Steakhouse was ok but not my favorite. Kind of like a steak sauce meets mustard. It is also noted that I am not really a big steak sauce fan so the might have affected my opinion a bit ;)

They are also available in many major grocery stores from what I understand.

That same friend sent me a six pack, also. I have only tried the spicy mango mustard and really fell in love with it. Gonna try the Texas chili mustard on some chili cheese dogs tomorrow evening. Almost scared to try the habanero, and just like Mike, I'm not a big fan of steak sauce, but I promised I would try them all so as to give an opinion.

It all sounds good, I'd like a dog with the habanero.  ;)

The same friend sent me a box as well. The mango is my favorite - it could become my goto mustard. I agree with muebe - they have a nice kick but are not over the top hot. What I like best about all of them is they have flavor - in spite of the name they don't try to kick you in the mouth. Even the habanero - while the first bite does bite you back, I never felt the need to reach for a glass of milk. Just a good heat with a great flavor. The steakhouse needs to be used with beef - not a dog or brat.

I am enjoying them and will definitely be a buyer in the future.

I was pleasantly surprised to find some El Diablo in a local store Friday night since their website doesn't show any local retailers. I bought the steakhouse and the Texas chili flavors.

I've heard the chili flavor described as it turns any hot dog into a chili dog, and that is the best way to describe the flavor. I had a dog with just that mustard on it, and if I had been blindfolded, I would have swore I was eating a chili dog.

I also tried the steakhouse on a dog, and I came away with the same conclusion as drolly—there's just something about its flavor that calls for beef. So I'll try it the next time I cook some burgers or have a roast beef sandwich.

Funny this post just popped back up. I had a couple dogs with the chili flavor earlier and it does make it into sort of a chili dog. Very good!

The first one I finished off was the mango. The habanero is also gone. I have some of the jalapeño left. Also the chili.

After trying the steakhouse I have grown to like it. It is good with beef!
