REAL BUTCHER SHOP
« Reply #-1 on: July 15, 2014, 03:44:30 PM »
Apologies up front that this post is only for LTBBQ friends in the Charlotte, Hickory, Gastonia environs of North Carolina but I know there are quite a bunch of us hanging out here.  Also no intent to sound like a commercial but I've stumbled upon a real meat market with a butcher and very competitive prices in Denver, North Carolina (just west of Lake Norman).  Triangle Food Market, 1298 N. Hwy 16.

If you are looking for a much better selection of meat and more "versatility" than a supermarket you need to check it out.  I bought spare ribs (in cryovac but no saline solution) and chicken thighs for upcoming contest.  They have a good selection of steaks, chops, packer briskets, tri-tips and other goodies, too.  Wish I had a freezer and/or more refrigerator space.

That is good to know Hub!

In Asheville we have The Chop Shop - which is an "locally raised, all natural" meat butcher ( http://www.chopshopbutchery.com ). Not the cheap choice...but fantastic quality. They make some incredible bacon, sausages, smoked poultry, etc....Really a great place.

In Hendersonville we have M & M Meat Market. A good old fashioned butcher shop. Really - better prices than the supermarkets for same/similar quality.

Thanks, Hub.  I'll take a ride up there and check it out.

Thanks Hub...I'll definitely check it out one weekend while I'm staying at the lake.

I've also heard good things about Mays Meat Market in Taylorsville.  A buddy loaded up on steak, ribs and butts there saying their prices were incredible.

It's nice to have options other than the national chains!

Just finished trimming the chicken thighs I bought and I'm not very happy with them.  They are too small and there isn't enough skin.  Next time I'm going to call before I go and have them cut differently.  Ribs are looking good, though.  For my next backyard cook I really want to do a tri-tip.

Mays Meat Market is where I first found a butcher that knew what a tri-tip was.  I bought several from him that day.  I will be heading on a relatively short road trip to Denver to check out their meat and prices.  Thanks Hub for brining this to our attention.
