Title: Newbie in Canyon Lake, CA
Post by: khsolomon on July 28, 2014, 08:38:38 PM: Greetings All, I'm a Southern Californian born & raised and have been a gas griller [high 'n' fast] all my life. Recently I've become interested in true BBQ [low 'n' slow]. I've attended a couple of BBQ competitions and have been impressed with the tastes of products turned out by a range of competitors, and have seen the interesting techniques and equipment on PitMasters and similar TV shows. I'm looking to enter the BBQ world myself with a smoker/grill to be purchased in the near future. Right now I'm leaning toward a pellet burner unit, mid-sized for personal use. I've signed up for a BBQ class sponsored by the California BBQ Institute, but have not attended yet.

I found LTBBQ while searching for reviews of equipment and found it to be quite helpful.

My experience with gas grilling [right now I cook on a Sabre gas grill] may be more of a hinderance that a help in the new techniques [hardware and practice] I want to learn. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and learning from you too.

There is a wealth of knowledge here on pellet grills. If you have any questions just ask...

All cooking knowledge is good knowledge.

Hello and welcome from the Northeast. For set it and forget it, it doesn't get much better than a pellet grill. It's my workhorse.

Very plainly spoken, helpful, and thorough. I've been doing lots of reading, but still you mentioned several points I hadn't run across yet. I was particularly interested in your discussion of using multiple cookers -- I was planning on keeping my Sabre gas grill anyway, but now I see better how it will fit into various cooking "programs" [if I can use that word]. Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the helping hand. Much appreciated.
