Title: BEESR.... 15-10-8 Method works on turkeys as well as butts
Post by: TMB on November 06, 2014, 07:58:24 PM
Years ago I came up with cooking smoked butts in the BEESR while feild testing the BEESR for CharBroil.
L.A and I were both given units to try out and we put them to the test.

The 15-10-8 method was developed so I could get as close to a real smoked butt in that cooker as you could from a real smoker.   15 is the unit on setting "15" for  15 to 20 mins so you can get the chis/pellets going real good place the butt or turkey in the chamber , 10 is setting "10" this is where you turn it down to for about one 45 mins to 1 hour then drop it to setting "8" and let it ride till the correct IT   for whatever meat your cooking is reached.   I have cooked chickens and turkeys this way and they taste very much the same as a smoked chicken or turkeys

So if you have a BEESR don't let it just sit there break it out and give this method a try.

My prototype ( looks like cobbled out of left over parts still works)
If not for some quality control issues this should of been a big seller.
It makes as good a smoked poultry as I've ever had !
It gives both a good smoked flavor & a seared outside of the meat.

Mine died  :'( :'(  half way through testing.  Seems a solder conection burned up and shorted out the control panel.  I think it was from over use  ;)

Believe it or not I had to promise not to modify that unit in ANYWAY    before they sent it to me :D

I did mod the ones I have a little  ;) ;)

Did you have to go through a 12 step program to accomplish this? :P :P :P

Tommy I believe of all the people who were sent prototypes you were the only one given this warning :D

Thank you for posting this.  I'm doing, all on my own, my first ever turkey this year so I'm just about a wreck thinking of it.  I've helped my mom do turkeys in the oven before but she was there in charge and with all the experience.  We don't have her anymore to give that experience and hand-holding to us.

I did two whole chickens back in October.  (Thanks to all for the comments on that post.) But I've still been worrying about the turkey day coming up.  I did see a previous post where someone just cooked their turkey on Level 15 in the BEESR the entire time and it was done in two hours.  Not sure which way to go but having more turkey in the BEESR posts is very much appreciated.

Same here, pellet grills rock, but I do like to go back to my other cookers (BEESR, WSM, PBC, WSJ) so they don't feel neglected. ;)
