The only thing I hate about posting this is you can’t taste these wonderful pickles and I don’t have the recipe to share. Sandman gave me a sample of them and I told him to get me a jar the next time he got some. He gets them from a local lady and she won’t give out the recipe.
When my wife drove through his carry out to get supper the other night he gave her a quart of the pickles and said to tell me Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks Sandman, love those pickles. They are hot, bread and butter pickles and the crispiest ones I have ever eaten. I don’t know what her secret is but have read that adding grape leaves or anything high in tannins will make them crispy.
I had a 3 lb. of smoked ham left from Thanksgiving so I sliced that up and in the crockpot to heat up. I had about a third of a small head of cabbage to use so I chopped and fried it with onions in some butter and added some cooked spaetzel to brown a little.
We had some marbled rye bread for ham sandwiches along with the cabbage and spaetzel. Tasted pretty good especially those pickles on my sandwich!

You're right, not being able to taste those pickles hurts.

YUM! I like everything on that plate.
I especially love bread & Butter pickles on ham sandwiches, and those do look mighty good.

SD, that plate of goodness looks delicious...especially the spaetzel.

I have never even heard of spaetzel, but that all looks good to me.
