Title: Making Marinara Sauce (picure heavy)
Post by: GusRobin on December 06, 2014, 12:44:22 PM
Since today was a good day for football, thought I'd make some pasta sauce since it takes a while to cook.

Here is the recipe I am using, so far this is the best of my "experiments":

Here are the ingredients:

The tomatoes, onions, peppers, garlic in the oven for a roast

Done

Browned pork steak

Everybody in the pool to simmer for about 5 hours, stirring occasionally

Simmering in pot next to timer

How timer works: You take a sip, go watch football. When you are thirsty you get up and take a sip and stir the sauce. Go watch football and repeat. Replace timer as needed.

So in about 5 hours I'll put in jars and pressure can.

It should be about 1.5 gallons. I make a large batch and can it in pint jars.

Dad would make enough to freeze for later.  He would use freezer bags instead of jars

I have not forgot about needing to meet with you, just been busy.

I was going to ask the same question, could you just freeze it?

I would be careful with the timer, a lot less accurate when they warm up ???

Bookmarked

I imagine you could freeze them> Since I have a pressure canner it is more convenient for me to can them and stick them in the pantry.

Seems the pot gets stirred frequently enough so the timer does not get warm. ;D

No problem, it is resting nicely in the freezer.

Gus, it's just you and me, some of that beer went into the sauce right?
