It was not a good year for my tomatoes. I had six plants in a raised bed garden but way too much rain in early summer. I was finally getting some tomatoes but they were not ripening very well and most had split tops. Looked like I was getting my last batch to pick so that told me I better have BLT’s!
I did up 10 slices of thick sliced bacon from my butcher on my Traeger. I like doing it on the smoker then I don’t have any clean up to do. I had some white bread to use; I would call it an old fashioned BLT. That’s how I remember having them when Mom fixed them. I think she did toast the bread sometimes. I sliced up a yellow and a red tomato for on top and had some iceberg lettuce.
We had asparagus for a side; added some olive oil, lemon juice and seasoning. I did them for 4 minutes in the microwave; tender crisp.
My wife had mayo on hers and I had mayo and mustard. I toasted the bread lightly. Man those were good, probably my last with fresh garden tomatoes for this year!
Last of my tomatoes

That looks great. I was in ND last week with my Dad. Apparently, most my heirloom and cherry tomatoes came in while I was gone. So, my wife picked them and gave them away.... YIKES... ??? ??? ???

I love everything about this post.

Got 'maters coming out of my ears! Had BLTs last night too, with some of the bacon I made last weekend. YUM!
-
Coulda used some of that asparagus though, love that stuff! Used to have a nice big patch in the back yard 'til we got a dog that has a fondness for it, she ate it as soon as it sprouted and after a couple years it quit coming altogether.

Funny, I had a nice bed years ago in my garden and had a Dalmatian that loved it too. It was hard to keep it cut ahead of her. Don

That's what I hate about garden fresh tomatoes. Can't eat 'em fast enough when ya got them, can't get them when you don't!

Sandwich is excellent - and I'll take all the green things you don't want - Nice job, Don!

Don - I like how you stack the bacon on a BLT - don't be shy with the main ingredient ;D

Good looking tomatoes, they almost look fake! I usually have to pull my tomatoes a day or two early because insects will start eating them if I don't, it usually helps with the splitting. The heat, and high humidity the Northeast and Mid Atlantic (Ohio included) makes the splitting far worst.
