Title: Yellow Grits or White Grits?
Post by: Cajunate on May 26, 2016, 11:03:26 AM
After reading a post about grits yesterdy I had an envie for some so this morning I made some cheesy yellow grits(Cajun Boy Brand Creamy Yellow Grits)which didn't exactly satisfy my envie. We have both yellow and white here and sometimes the white are better and vice versa.

I had a couple of fresh sunny side up eggs and toast as well.

Here's a question for everyone...... Which do you prefer yellow or white grits? Or does it not matter?

That's a good looking breakfast!

As to your question - Yellow grits or white?  My answer is simple; Yes!

I grew up eating cornmeal mush and love the stuff (both savory with butter, salt, pepper, or with a little butter & maple syrup).  Grits are an easy extension of that love I have for cornmeal mush.

That sure looks good Cajun!!! I grew up eating fried mush, yellow cornmeal in a loaf pan to set up and then sliced and fried. I since got a love for grits, I seem to prefer white with bacon and eggs and with ham and red eye gravy. I like the yellow with shrimp and grits or any pork and grits. I like them thick too; so a spoon stands up when inserted. Don

My grandma made mush or mumaliga in Romanian, she put a  layer of cornmeal then a thick layer of shredded brick cheese back and forth until the bowl was full with cheese on the top then into an oven so it melted together, just take a big spoon of it and put it in a bowl or over lettuce soup, which is a sour soup, like wilted lettuce but in soup form..the absolute best, I'm the only one to make it any more. I did grow up on it.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

For some reason we very rarely have yellow grits. But I like all three kinds of grits. I really don't have a preference between yellow or white.  Its all good!  Your plate looks good to me... That plate would be shiny when I finished it...   You did short yourself just a little though. Wheres the biscuits?

Oh, the third kind of GRITS.... Girls raised in the south ! They are all good too...
Pam, by the way is an honorary GRITS. She cooks like a southern girl and is very good at it. Her biscuits and gravy are awesome and that's just the beginning...

Best grits ever....Nassau Grits from the Coffee Cup in Pensacola, FL

Luckily, somebody shared a pretty close facsimile on the interwebs:

Not the quickest... but by far the tastiest.

Please don't throw anything, but, no grits for me.  In fact, it's so out of bounds, my granmom never even served up polenta when I was growing up ! ! !

I've been eatin' grits for over 65 years and never get tired of 'em.  I was an adult before I ever knew grits could be yellow...I like them, too.
Like Smokin' Don, I like 'em thick.
And...like Terry...I like Girls Raised In The South.  Though Deb was born in Massachusetts, her parents had enough sense to move to Georgia to raise her in the South before she got too confused.

just sayin'...

They did good with Deb... It never even crossed my mind she wasn't a Georgia girl.

I like'em both I suppose. My wife is from South GA and she's a grit eatin' fool! She likes them with butter and salt or country ham and redeye gravy. I like them with butter and SUGAR! That's how my mom got me to eat them as a kid and it stuck. I also like them cheesy but really only if eating Shrimp & Grits.

Raised on white grits and I did no know they made yellow grits until I was in my twenties. I still haven't eaten the yellow, but I would guess they would be just as good.

Jaxon:  I am from Michigan originally and never had grits.  On my first trip to Florida, I stopped in Macon for breakfast.  I then had my first grits and have never looked back.  I like the white and yellow, and use heavy cream, butter, and cheese.  Great with fish or shrimp.  I cannot usually find stone ground grits in the store, so I buy yellow coarse corn meal, and I think they are pretty much the same as stone ground?
