Title: A new addition to the household.
Post by: Roget on May 19, 2018, 04:33:45 PM
I welcomed someone new into my home today.

I enjoyed my time with his little cousin so much that I decided to let him join the family.

His name is Jim.

Victoria made it clear to him (& me) that he will have to do a lot of work if I let him stay here.
I plan on putting him to work tonight.

Actually, I got what I think is a great deal on this smoker.
GMG msrp is $1100.00.  I paid $829.00 new in the box & out the door.
I also got a cover and an upper smoke shelf in the deal.
It is the WIFI model, & if it works as well as the Davey Crockett, I'm gonna love it.

I'm thawing out a butt as I type, & I've got a couple of pork bellies ordered from my butcher for next week.
I'm anxious to see if it performs as well as the Davey Crockett.

No, it's not multi colored. The stainless steel lid is so shiny it is reflecting everything on my deck.  :D :D

Congratulations on that fine new cooker. You have a lot of space in that big unit.

You sure did get a good deal on that cooker.

That is a good looking pelletizer...congratulations

I'm thinking about getting a Daniel Boone. I'll be following your cooks and comments about Jim.

GMG usually runs a good Fathers Day special next month.  Watch for it Jack and then pull the trigger.

Yes, it does indeed have a good bit of real estate. Maybe more than I really need.
I considered the Daniel Boone, but with the difference in price being what it was, I thought "what the hey".

The only concern I have is the bigger appetite for pellets it may have.
I was going to call GMG & ask if they had conducted any usage comparison studies, but didn't want to wait & miss out on this sale price.

I got it burned in & hope to get some grub on it today or tomorrow.

Sure do love the WiFi. Works like a charm.

The JB will burn a little more pellets as compared to the Davy Crockett or the Daniel Boone but not as much as you might think. Heck, you live pretty close to Gillman's Do It Best in Edinburgh, In and they handle a great pellet that I have been using for over 15 years and would cost you about $5.50-6.00 bucks per 40 pound bag.
The brand name is Somerset "Premium" Hardwood Pellets and they are made from a blend of Appalachian Oak, Maple, Hickory, and American Cherry. The cost at around $.15 cents a pound and they are a wonderful pellet.

Gillman's Address is 15901 N. US 31 @ Edinburgh, In. 46124 and their phone is 812-526-2568 and do call first as they may not have any in stock at this time in the year. Fall is when they get their pellets in and they get them in by several semi loads and I usually purchase about 500 pounds at a time.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dave.
That certainly is a good price on pellets.
I have been using Lumberjack at about 45 cents per pound.
I will check them out.
