The Whistle Stop BBQ contest has been in Huntsville for many years and this year as many was a WET one!!
My brother in-law an I went today just to look around and see what was there and even found GusRobin (a new member here)
I have known Gus for a few years now and know if there's good BBQ he will be there! Well, really he was working the event ;)
I forgot to get a picture of him :( But most of you know what he looks like.
J.T and I walked all over except where the mud was deep ;) and met friends from all over, even found a BBQ cooker I never heard of. Jambo was the name and it's from Texas, price starts around $6k for his type modle (last two pictures)
Just wish we had found out who the winners were, but it started raining so we left :-[ getting to old for wet and cold ;D

Jambo grills are what the "big boys" play with. You can customize them as much as your pocketbook will stand. I have seen a few that make you wish you had the money.

no Whistle Stop AL was a fictitious town. The Whistle Stop refers to the fact that the BBQ comp takes place on the grounds of a historic train depot.
-
Jambo pits become quite famous after BBQ Pitmasters. Johnny Trigg and Tuffy Stone cooked on Jambos. In fact Jamie (the owner) competed on one of the episodes.

My friend Kat is doing comp there.

The Whistle Stop Cafe in the movie was the Irondale Cafe just outside Birmingham. It is still there today and still serving good fried chicken and fried green tomatoes and the railroad still runs across the street. Fanny Flagg's (the author of the book) grandmother ran the cafe and she grew up around the cafe and the railroad.

That thing is built like a tank. Too bad the weather was rainy with all the work and anticipation of the folks. Dee
