Well I do like Sweet Baby Ray's, Stubb's, and Cattleman's so that list is not bad.

I am not a big BBQ sauce fan (especially brand sauces), but I tend to agree with the reviews in the article.  If I am presented with food that needs it, I am OK with Sweet Baby Ray's or Stubb's (never tried Cattleman's).

I got a pulled pork sandwich at a local joint the other day (ya, I know, not a good idea). The pork was OK but they used Cattleman's for the sauce...

That's just wrong for pulled pork!

Based on the ones they tested. The results look right. Sweet Baby Rays and Cattleman's use both at times.

For a bottled sauce, Sweet Baby Ray's is my go to brand.

If its store-bought, we prefer Stubbs and Sweet Baby Ray's.  The other store-bought sauce my wife prefers is Sticky Fingers Carolina Classic, a mustard based sauce.  That KC Masterpiece seems to have too much liquid smoke in it. (heck, I can add that myself if I really want it.)

Howsomever...having said that, we have found that our all-time favorite sauce is HUBBA BUBBA SAUCE (a home-made).  Dee introduced it to us at the first Gathering in Augusta, sent us the recipe, and we love it.  We can adjust the heat by using less cayenne pepper.  We use a little less than 1/8 tsp.   It takes only a few minutes to make...I keep most of the ingredients together in a special box so I can bring 'em all out together and mix it up.

Deb would not use anything other than the Sticky Fingers until I quietly and timidly asked her to try this one.  Now, she thinks I know what I'm talking about when it comes to BBQ sauce.

Can you post that recipe? I love Dee's Brunswick Stew, so I'm guessing the BBQ Sauce will be stellar as well.

Thanks,

David

I find any list like that laughable! :D :D :D

Not because it is wrong...or right....But because it is like the old "Ford or Chevy" argument. Hey! - BBQ and outdoor cooking in general is all about what YOU like.

In the Eastern part of both Carolinas and Georgia - vinegar sauce is "the best" - because it is a regional favorite - many generations inthe making.

In the middle of SC - mustard based sauces  easily displace the typical other sauces in popularity. And - in Northern Alabama...they even have a favorite MAYONAISE based sauce!!! ::) ;D :D.

Me...I like 'em all at different times, on different meats. ;)

I  like Sweet Baby Rays for a "starter" - that I can add stuff too. And Stubbs too!

I put more faith in this list than 99% of the other list found on the web.

If you like it hot enough to fry your brains...add a tablespoon of cayenne pepper

Call me a super-taster...or a wimp... 1/4 teaspoon in this recipe burns us up.  Can't imagine how we would survive a tablespoon full.  YIKES!  This doesn't even make 4 cups of sauce.  But it is mighty good.
