Title: Butternut Wood
Post by: Pappymn on July 07, 2013, 03:06:59 PM
Went to my favorite local meat market today. And I noticed in their chunk wood selection that they had Butternut wood. Had not heard of it, so I thought I would throw it out to the experts for any comments.

When I was a boy, my father would take me mushroom hunting with him in autumn. We would also gather black walnuts and butternuts. Butternuts are much like a walnut, so I assume the wood would be similar.    Sorry can't help more.

Here is what I found; Butternut: Strong smoke, like walnut, bitter when used alone
Good on red meats like Beef, Pork, Venison and other game
meats. Can easily overpower poultry.
