Title: How many of you guys would do this?
Post by: dawrecknq on July 14, 2013, 07:53:38 PM
Spent most of the day yesterday, cleaning (scrubbing down) and painting this old grill. Bought it last year at WallyWorld just to get me through the summer. Kinda fell in love with it and thought a good cleaning and a paint job was the least I could do. Cost me about $25.00 for everything I fixed, cleaned and painted. I could have bought a new one on sale right now for $70.00. But, it was still a fun job and a good day!

I think most of us are a little sick/twisted about our grills and cooking gear. That thing looks brand new!

Nice job! Does the handle on the right adjust the charcoal level? I like that!

We all reach an age where we can't throw away old grills or old women.  Dee

dawrecknq - what did you use for paint? My 500X has not had the easiest life and needs some rehabilitation...

Thanks!

Sounds like you had more "fun" cleaning it than you would have buying a new one.  :D

It looks brand new. NICE JOB!

I'd do that in a heartbeat, but then again I spent $55+ to refurbish our Weber Kettle instead of buying a new one for $89.

It does indeed raise and lower the coal basket. It is the one feature that most indears me to this grill!!!

Those are the holders for my Tiki pot sticks. I pull out the cap and stick them in, when I want to bring in the spirit of the Islands...and keep the dang Skeeters away. Hopefully, it is keeping debris and crap out; also keeping water from getting in and breaking up my patio and tiki holders during winter.

Someday, when I build my "ultimate" grill - the ability to move the fire or the food up and down will be a key feature. I am happy for you!

I think it is worth the effort if you like the grill.
Looks great.

Looks great.  I have an old Char-Broil Big Easy Gas grill that I can't seem to part with, even though I mostly use the RED now.  It has sentimental value.  But needs a little refurb and love.
