Title: Rocky's muskmellon pancakes for lunch
Post by: drholly on July 31, 2013, 05:31:01 PM
I work from my home. So do my kids in the summer...  ??? Some of you may remember Rocky from a previous forum. She has been my cooking buddy for several years, but she is moving into her teen years...  :o ??? :o ???

Today, I suggested we have pancakes for lunch. She explained in her own terms just how stupid that was. I cut up a fresh muskmelon - it was very sweet. I suggested that this would be a great addition to some pancakes. Rocky told me to buy blueberries.  ::)

An hour later she showed up in my office with some muskmelon pancakes - and just to prove the nut doesn't fall far from the tree - she grilled the muskmelon! They were great!

When I went upstairs and commented on pancakes for lunch - she pointed out the time and said it was "linner" and that was ok...  :o

Whatever the term or time, these were really good. Just some normal pancake batter and some grilled muskmelon chunks mixed in.

Cheers!

I don't even know what a muskmellon is, but I'd eat that.

Looks good and I don't eat many pancakes. Hang on David they turn into a whole new animal when you get them in the 14 almost 15 year old group. I am beginning to think they dont even like themselves during this time of their lives!

Unfortunately, I am already too aware of this transformation. Her older sister is 15 - yikes..  ??? ??? ??? Every day, every night, every hour things change... I love them dearly, but .... I wish school ran year round!

I bet we can start a business and become gazillionaires.  We have this place where parents can send us their kids when they are 14 and we keep them and give them back when they are 21.  Dee

As crazy as they are, enjoy them while you can before they grow up and move thousands of miles away.

David that is a very nice lunch. You have taught Rocky very well. As others have said, enjoy this time with her, her schedule will rapidly fill up with new interests. It's good to see them mature, and grow, but at times you just want to stop the process and freeze time.  Now I'm hungry.....

Wonderful story David, and one I think many parents have experienced.   Kids often speak before they think, and once they realize what they have done, they sometimes actually make attempts to repair the harsh words they have spoken.  ;)
