That White Horse Tavern is a neat little place in Newport, RI. It also serves good food.

I use to visit Newport when I had to spend a little time at Groton, CT.

IDAHO.....TV was invented in Rigby, Idaho, in 1922.

smoke, not to start any controversy, but TV was around long before 1922. The first television patent was by the German Paul Nipkow in 1884. In 1897, another German Karl Braun invented the cathode ray oscilloscope. One of the foremost figures in the complex history of tv is Vladimir Zworykin from Russia (also known as the Father of TV). In 1923, he won his first U.S. patent for tv and won the race for the tv system that we started out with. This is the system that RCA (now NBC) brought to the masses at the World's Fair in New York City in 1939. Philo Farnsworth, who grew up in Rigby, Idaho, moved to San Fransisco after high school. He was also a pioneer in the development of tv with the all-electronic pickup device better known as the camera. Dee can back me up on this info because he was monitoring history way back then.

On a side note, I spent 3 days with Vladimir Zworykin in 1980 when he was attanding a satellite transmission conference in Miami alongside Arthur C. Clark. This was their very first look at satellite television and I witnessed his first words after he saw his first satellite tv picture....."I had no idea this could ever happen." That will stick in my memory forever. The ring around the earth over the equater where all the stationary satellites are located is now known as the Clark Orbit. Another bit of trivia... Arthur C. Clark was not a scientist, but a science fiction writer (Space Odyssey 2001 and 2010). He envisioned this satellite belt over the earth where satellites can maintain position and NASA took it to fruition and proved him right. I, along with several other friends in the business, went to Sri Lanka in 1981 and presented and installed a satellite earth station for Clark to thank him for his contribution to television technology.

It was... fun to read about "my states" - North Dakota - where I grew up, Minnesota - where I live now and have a few times, Hawaii - my favorite, Iowa - a stopover, and Wisconsin - a fairly long stay over...

This was a great list - thanks!

Once a year they have a 9-1-1 festival.   The Festival honors all police, fire and emergency personnel and includes a Street Dance & BBQ Cook-off on Friday and a Parade, Arts & Crafts, Exhibits, Car Show, and children's activities

Haleyville, Al   The last weekend in May

The town reminds me of  Mayberry  ;)

I'm still around but sort of depressed that the only thing they could think of to say about my former home state had to do with the Pentagon.
