Title: Music for my Outdoor Kitchen

Aug 30 2013

Music has been missing from my outdoor kitchen and now problem is solved. I bought my wife a Nextbook tablet for when she is in rehab after her knee operation, otherwise she would go into Facebook withdrawal. I had ITunes on my PC so downloaded an app so I could put it on her tablet.

Now using the touchscreen was a trip for me! It seems to do all but what I want. It took me awhile but I got 100 songs on the tablet. I got her headphones working and showed her how to play the music. I got to thinking some speakers and I can have some music while cooking. I had some powered speakers that would work.  They worked out good and now my outdoor kitchen is more complete.

I was getting ready to smoke a rolled rump roast for making crockpot beef stew for today’s dinner. When I got the music working I sat down and noticed two hummingbirds fussing over one feeder. I got my camera and took 80 shots of the two.  I will post a few in other hobbies.

I finally got by beef roast on and did it 1 hour on smoke and about another 1 ½ hours at 300 deg. to an IT of 140 deg. After it cooled, I wrapped in foil and in the fridge.

My music setup, can't see the screen but Favorites of the Outlaws was playing

It's my understanding that the Turtle in an effort to keep up with the modern technology just installed a Victrola in his outdoor kitchen.  Dee

Music is a must for a long smoke
WEED e do our long ones overnight, starting the fired about 9pm
Living in Texas it is hot on the patio, so we installed misters
We have a TV sound bar on the table under cover, donna plugs her iPod into it
We have 14 hours of 70s rock and a beer cooler. We set out there until 1 or 2 am until the smoker settles in.

Smoke,  What's this round black plastic/rubber thing over the lens of my camera?  Do I have to take it off to take pictures?  Dee

Nice setup and nice looking hunk of meat. I have a Jensen speaker system I can plug my Ipod into and it works well for my patio.

Don if you have Internet on the Tablet download the IHeartRadio app. It is free. You just choose your favorite band and it will randomly play songs from that band and others that sound similar. Way better than Pandora!

Yes. Way better. Only one commercial when you first start the app. And does not lose connection or run out of songs like Pandora!

I'm a big fan of Spotify but I've also got my networks set up to stream from my mp3 files from my PC or phone.  To cut down on the setup, you may want to consider a low-priced network speaker.  I have the Sony SA-NS300 which hooks into my WiFi network and allows me to play tunes directly from my iPhone or from any device on my network (including NFL games on the TV) and hear the audio anywhere you move the speaker.

The newer version of the network speaker is one that has a rechargeable battery (5 hours a pop) and can still be plugged in:  http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SA-NS500-Portable-Speaker-AirPlay/dp/B005Q7IIFQ/ref=pd_sim_e_2

There are plenty of reputable and cheaper manufacturers than Sony; I just got mine free with my receiver and blu-ray player ...

It's my understanding that the Turtle in an effort to keep up with the modern technology just installed a Victrola in his outdoor kitchen.

It worked pretty well, too, until I had to get rid of it because all the neighborhood dogs kept digging under the fence so they could listen.

Strange that I don't do music while cooking considering how big a part of my life music is otherwise.  I guess there is separation of the things you love sometimes.
