Title: On the move
Post by: muebe on November 30, 2013, 08:59:57 AM
Well after 13 years of living in the same place I am going to be moving next weekend ???

I have a renter lined up for my place and she will be moving in as I move out. I was looking to buy in the Santa Clarita Valley but the homes are high priced right now and my home is not.

So I will become a landlord and a renter at the same time.

We finally found a really nice house to rent in Canyon Country in a upscale neighborhood. We just got the keys yesterday. It has a nice backyard for my kids(cooking equipment) but there is no patio cover :'(

So I am going to have to get my own makeshift patio cover installed.

I will be closer to the San Fernando Valley. You hear me Smoke? ;)

Wish me luck! Next weekend is going to be busy :o

Best of luck int he new place Mike!

You may want to talk about the move amongst your co-workers as a party. When you get everything in place, you will BBQ and have beer for everyone. AFTER you get enough help to move quickly, safely and without it killing any one person. Bait 'em! ;D

Hope the move goes well Mike. Just get an EZ-Up canopy to cook under good way for a cover.

That was my thinking. Would rather set up something I could leave up however.

Thanks for all the support. This move is mainly for my kids. My neighborhood has gone downhill fast. I want my children living in a better community. It is close to their schools and daycare (mother-in-law). Also closer to my wife's work but I will now have a 30 minute commute to work instead of 2 minutes. I do get to take the company truck home so gas is not on my dime. Wife was spending $800 a month in gas running the kids to school and going to work. So that will cover the increase in monthly costs.

We wanted to buy but that just won't work right now so we are going to wait a few years. The house we are renting would probably be on the market for $500, 000 to $600, 000 ???

Best of luck with your move, Mike.  My Dad was in the Navy and we moved every 2 years whether I wanted to or not.  After he got settled for a few years after retiring from the Navy, I went off to school and then the Navy for a while.  I still moved around, just not as often.  The only good thing I ever got out of moving was learning to pack!  It has served me well.  I can fit five pounds in a two pound bag.

Get some moving advice from Dee.  He moved a few times in his career.  He probably has a ton of pictures to post as examples for you.

And when they start leaking water...they flood the house ???

I would rather flood the garage floor.

Maybe in MN it get's too cold for it to be practical located in the garage?

Oh what a busy week! I hate moving :'(

So after 2 loads in a 26ft U-Haul and several trips with my Silverado I got a majority of my things moved from the Lancaster house! It is amazing what you accumulate in 13 years.

I got the interior painted and new carpet put in the rooms. My tenant got the keys yesterday and moves in today.

I got all my cooking equipment moved out but decided to leave the RED for the tenant. Then my boss was helping me move and saw the grill. He wanted to buy it and so I sold it to him. And he is buying the spa too! What do I say? He is my boss ;)

And now to try and tackle all the boxes in the garage at the new place ???

Sure is a nice house! It looks like it is in great shape and a very nice neighborhood for you and the kids. Too bad that you couldn't buy this one. Perhaps, some day.

However, for a 71 year old man, it has too much yard work for me with all of those shrubs and lawn. After being raised in New Mexico, you develop a strong appreciation for dirt. The nice thing about dirt is it allows you to spend more time in the mountains fly fishing.

muebe - Taking SWMBO to the airport tonight so she can spend Christmas with daughter & SIL in Rosamond. She'll be on the Antelope Express to Lancaster arriving at 8:45 tomorrow morning - you can meet her there and deliver the invitation to your new digs for some great food as well as the terrific Christmas present you got for me. Just let me know how big a truck the kids will need to haul the present.

Oh yeah, she'll be the gorgeous (but tired) blond who doesn't look old enough to be your mother.
