As a retired school teacher, I can honestly say that I didn’t see this often enough.

Makes perfect sense to me!

Feel sorry for teachers today, I would be in jail ???

You'll get no argument from me on that philosophy!

so true.

Just the reach for the belt was all that was needed.....
-
I totally agree! Don from the old school

I try my best to have my children (13, 11, 4) call adults "Mr/Mrs. last name" Even with friends of ours, they still refer to them that way. I think it makes a huge difference.
-
Yes sir I do remember the belt! And it does make perfect sense to me too! At times I wonder
about the young kids growing up with lack of respect and then you see their parents who are
encouraging this by their total lack of respect for anything. Old school may be old fashioned,
but it worked. At least with the people I grew up with.

My old man used to have a thick white leather belt that I know he never wore (I don't think he ever wore anything white other than underwear). It looked like a bad disco nightmare, and it scared the crap out of me.

I remember my dad's fireman belt...it was huge..or seemed so..only took it once..then I learned. He got all 5 of us down in the living room one day and everyone got a lick. That way he knew whoever did whatever..that he got the right one. Geezzz. Did I mention I was a quick study? Pam ☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི

Oooh that large brown belt....I still get chills. Good thing for me that I had perfect behavior as a kid. ::)

We got it with a razor sharpening strap that my Dad got from some barber shop way back when. That sucker hurt.......and hurt bad........

Belt?? Mom would whip out the wooden spoon and take care of us ??? You know the one she cooked with for years that's hard as a rock and could paddle a small boat!!
I joke now, but when Kimmie and I were first married she had a hard time getting the a drawer open. When it did open all the utensils hit the back of the drawer and it sounded just like the drawer did when Mom got the spoon it sent CHILLS up my spine that I will never forget.
If more kids had that memory we wouldn't have the troubles we have now

My dad would walk down the hallway to my brother's and I room. As walked down he would snap the belt together letting us know he was coming. Close the door behind him and then started swinging ???
IMHO he seemed to really enjoy it. He was abusive and went too far. I agree with spanking your kids but he went further then that. We were literally afraid of him.
I really try to balance that out with my kids now. I use my hand through the clothing. Not super hard but it stings and they get the message.

The belt is excessive. I believe that a good swat will suffice. Pain isn't required. When they're toddlers or younger the strike's noise is effective. The ratio of loving touches to swats has to be a minimum of 100:1, otherwise they'll fear your hand.
I've never trained a dog with pain, and I certainly wouldn't subject a child to it.

Well said Paul.
