Last August I bought some Select peeled Tri-Tips from Cash & Carry at $3.70/lb. Yesterday I smoked my last vacuum sealed roast. Need to pick me up some more but I'll be lucky to find them for under $5 these days. I know that Select is the low end of the totem pole but for when I smoke them and slice them very thin I find it hard to tell the difference.

Rubbed the Tri-tip with EVOO and my favorite rub. Wrapped in plastic and fridged overnight. Setpoint to Smoke - preheated for 15 minutes and smoked for the Tri-Tip for 1½ hours. Bumped the temp to 350ºF until the IT reached 145ºF. Rested under a foil tent for 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

That looks great! I haven't cooked a tri-tip in years, much less seen one around here in a long time. Last time I checked, Publix could get them but they were somewhere north of $7/lb. ???
I felt lucky to find butts for less than $2/lb. this week. Prices are getting ridiculous for meat. Hope this trend doesn't last long.

Love to grill tri-tips on the SRG! BUT, they are getting very scarce around here. Albertson's the only place that I've found carries them. Check almost everytime I'm there and usually none around Ask the meat cutter and he says, "we didn't get any in the last shipment." Whatever the h... that means! And, they are now advertised as a special at $5.99/lb, and they never have them. Since it's all meat with very little waste, not too bad, BUT just wish they'd get some in. Also ask for a raincheck, which I get, but what good if they never have any in stock?
