Title: Finally, got to do ribs to the finish in my pellet grill
Post by: TMB on April 26, 2014, 11:51:22 PM
My first try at ribs in my homemade pellet grill was a wash out (really rained like crazy)  had to finish them in the oven.  :(

But today was different, clear and warm not a rain cloud in sight.  So I rubbed a nice rack of baby back ribs with mustard and my homemade rub.  Set the pellet grill to "smoke" setting  let it warm up and set them down for a nice long smoke.

After 3 hrs I started to brush them with a sauce kimmie bought at the Pepper Palace in Nashville Tn a few weeks.  They cooked for about 3  1/2  hrs and I pulled them cause Kimmie was hungry.  They were a little under cooked but were ok.  I should have told her no but she was hungry and I did get a late start . They were good like I said but I'm use to 1.5 hrs cooking ribs using an SRG not 3+ hrs going low and slow.

Okay, you passed the "look test".  Your next "test" will be the "taste test".  Start practicing for the Fall Gathering.  You are going to be going head-to-head with the master, Sparky.  Good luck.

Nice rack Tommy (another thing you can only get away with saying on a cooking forum.  Kinda like nice looking butt).

Tommy, those ribs look really good. Did Kimmie really eat a rib that was not well done?

Thanks guys, they were ok but really need more practice  ;)   Guess I'll bite the bullet and practice more :D :D :D :D

Also I need to take it slower, the SRG really spoiled me because it cooks ribs so dang fast

They look great!

Your pellet grill still cooks ribs faster than many/most do. I can do BB's in my Rec Tec in 4.5~5 hrs. and spares take longer than that.

LNS is best, IMO.

What I want to know is.... Can you tell the difference in taste?

Yes, with the pellet pooper you get more smoke flavor but as for tenderness they are about the same.  Now if Todd will get the new "Smoking Tommy Ring"  out on the market it will be close  ;)
