A lot of you have said you stopped buying rib eye steaks because of the high prices. I don’t know how the prices here in Wapakoneta, OH compare with what they are in other places of the country.
Rib eyes are my favorite steak and just had my butcher cut me some about a half inch thick, I told him I wanted six for sandwiches. I ordered them and just picked them up. It was $17.85 for the package and it weighed about 1.8 pounds. That figures to about $9.90 a pound. If you buy a whole rib eye he will slice for free but smaller amounts I think he charges some for slicing.
When I opened the package he had 4 in there. They were big enough I will get 8 sandwiches from them and that is $2.23 per sandwich. That seems pretty reasonable to me for a good sandwich. So if you buy and use them this way you can still enjoy a rib eye! If you buy a whole one and slice yourself it would be cheaper than that; at least here in Wapakoneta.
I will find the price per pound on some of his steaks the next time I stop in. He did have 4 nice sirloin tenderloin steaks about 2 inches thick at $15 + a pound. It looked like each one was about 8 oz. I would pay that for a treat as it would be $7+ each. At any restaurant it would cost you at least $20 + for one.
What are some of the prices for steaks you all are paying?

Did our annual butcher store run last weekend and purchased boneless ribeye in the bag as well as New York. Boneless ribeye was $4.99 and NY was $4.49. I like to cut it myself into 1.5-2-inch slices, plus the ends for burger which we are grillin' this afternoon
NY on the left, ribeye on the right - 2 steaks per package

Rib eye is my favorite as well. I happened to be at the store tonight and there was a sale on steak the rib eye was on for $6.99 per pound. I snagged up the last two value packs to vacuum seal and put in the freezer. Fortunately I hit the last day of the sale (Safeway just in case there is anyone in the area).
-
Value packs of ribeye are around $7.99~$9.99/lb., but they usually don't look very good and claim to be choice. The good ribeyes are all $11.99/lb & up. Two local butcher shops are somewhere north of $12/lb. Even ground chuck is close to or over $4/lb. here.
It hasn't been that many years ago when I could buy a good ribeye for $6-7/lb.

I was just at my butchers, he had ribeye $8.89, T-bones, $9.79, whole ones were a dollar cheaper per pound and sliced free. He had a whole NY strip for $5.65 and sliced free. Don
