Actually spent a few hours in The Blind Pelican our last night in town over Easter.  They were boiling crawfish out front and I had fried green tomatoes.  The owner talked with us for quite a while and even gave me a shirt.  That will be our homebase while in NOLA. Can't wait for next Easter.

Are oysters at Blind Pelican  as good as the gigantic ones we had at Luke?

I never thought I would see the day I would be afraid to eat raw oysters, but with the flesh eating bacteria that people are catching from warm gulf waters, I might have to give them up. Here is a link to a story of a man who got it from eating oysters out of the Gulf.

I may have to give up raw oysters too, after reading all the facts about Vibrio Vulnificus, and being a diabetic myself, it's not worth the risk. >:(

I'm not telling you to eat raw oysters!
About 15-20 people die a year!
If you don't eat gulf oysters between May & September the risk goes wat down.
We all do things that are dangerous, I take Advil or Alene almost every day!

"Understanding NSAIDs
There is no question that the risks of NSAIDs can be serious, even life-threatening.

According to the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), each year the side effects of NSAIDs hospitalize over 100,000 people and kill 16,500 in the U.S., mostly due to bleeding stomach ulcers.

But it's important to put those numbers in context. The AGA also says that every day, more than 30 million Americans use NSAIDs for pain from headaches, arthritis, and other conditions. And while some experts emphasize the dangers, others stress that living with chronic pain is terrible in itself."

Good perspective, LA.

Not a day goes by without some news of a food recall, or illness at a resort or on a ship. There is no safe bubble to live in. We all push the limits when we cook - letting food come to room temp before grilling, potential cross contamination, having fun with friends while food sits potentially too long on the deck. I particularly enjoy watching the careful cook wearing gloves - and touching everything - just not with bare hands...  ::)

The key is to be careful and aware of risks - but within that to enjoy our lives.

Sounds like you and your family had a great time dodging the rain, LA - thanks for sharing!
