Tim's Driveway
« Reply #-1 on: August 12, 2016, 10:21:49 PM »
Well last time I visited Tim the hardest part was his driveway   ::)
I'd just driven on the Blue Ridge parkway, & tome on Hwy 297 that the motor cycle riders call the "Switchback "
Well Tim's driveway had a grade of 10 % , 90 degree curve & loose gravel  ???
Drove up today planning on going in reverse, only way to get a front wheel drive up thr drive!
Well he redid the drive, not hard to get up at all 8)

Shoot....I may have to go to work again. My tractor has been in the shop - and they have not figured out why it will not start. No sound.....

So we had a LOT of rain...You might se that this region is experiencing a drought - but in the small area of the county I live in - we get more rain than Seattle. No kidding. - so, no drought for me...just lots of gravel washing down the mountain....

Paving here is not practical. It only guarantees that in the winter you will be able to imitate Olympic ski-jumping - but in a car ;) :D.

SO - you either own a tractor - and know how to grade and pack a driveway - or you PAY...and pay, and pay. I think most of you know that I am genetically pre-disposed to AVOID paying and paying :D....UNLESS it is for a new grill ;)...

BUT the Mrs. T is kind of particular about not having to park at the bottom of a hill, and hike up hill for almost 200 yards of road..... ::)

I agree and tell the Mrs that you  bought it so she wouldn't have to walk up the driveway. And oh, by the way, they had a special --buy a tractor and get a KBQ - that's where that new smoker came from, honest.

A surprise that occurred to me - and my friend that owned a JD...is that ALL John Deere Tractors under 125 h.p. are NOT made in the USA. They are built under contract by various manufacturers. The issue is that - keeping up with parts availability, and mechanic's familiarity to repair them is a "days gone by" issue now. In fact Gus - today's "compact" as well as other larger tractors must meet ALL of the EPA exhaust requirements of other "vehicles". This mans they all now have on-board computer systems and all the additional wiring, and extra filters, etc...such that for a routine fluids and filter change - now adds an additional $200 bucks...and G_D forbid...if the emissions computer gives up the ghost - that can be $2000
