LLO on Rye
« Reply #-1 on: August 14, 2016, 03:11:52 PM »
That's Limburger, Liverwurst and Onion on Rye....the house special at Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern in Monroe, WI. The only town in the U.S. that still makes this odiferous and tasty cheese. My father occasionally ate this when I was a youngster, and when he did, well I went outside in a hurry! :D
Many years later I tried it and....I actually enjoyed it. I had the house special at Baumgartner's served with a pint of bock beer and a breath mint for later! Before coming home from Wisconsin last Monday I bought a block of the rind-washed cheese. My orders from Mrs Hikerman were to "get that out of the refrigerator/house in one week!" Today is one week!
Toasted rye, covered in whole grain mustard, a layer of the sweet cheese, a layer of liverwurst, and a layer of sliced onion. Uh oh there goes Mrs Hikerman....bye dear! :D
Served with a dill slice and a cold FT! Life is good....and peaceful!  8)

It's much like brie, soft, creamy texture with a nice mellow taste.

I'd give it a try.  Might need a second FT, however.

A favorite here, love Limburger.  Liverwurst in the fridge, hard to find limburger around here.
Thanks for posting, looks good.

Liverwurst and Onion on Rye is on the favorites list.
I remember both grandfathers, my father and his siblings eating Limburger but none for me please.
