What to do with those old grills...
« Reply #-1 on: February 19, 2013, 10:30:16 PM »
At one time whilst preparing the Everybody/America/Canada Grills cookbooks I had more than 20 grills parked outside my kitchen door. It looked like the car valet scene from Father of the Bride sometimes.  Many just didn't make it after some very tough abuse and sitting thru the Seattle winters - you can imagine the rust that formed in the already rust-prone areas of the grills...

But I was able to salvage about a dozen and give them to friends and folks who needed grills.  Had I thought of this - perhaps they all would have remained outta the scrap metal bin.

I didn't have as many as you, but I did get up to eight a while back.  My biggest problem is nobody wanted my old Jenn Air gasser under any conditions at all.  It was just too big and a few knew it was all show and no go.  I finally managed to give it to my house painter.  Sort of like the old proverb of selling your boat -- it was a happy day when it disappeared  ;)

Same here. They will take anything you leave out in my neighborhood. I have called the trash company for bulk item pick up. Then put the stuff out the night before and it is gone before the trash company can take it. Stuff that I never thought anyone would want!

Same here. Monday I put out a two drawer filing cabinet that was all beat up and had some surface rust and my wife said it was gone that morning. Guess some folks drive around looking for stuff to take to the scrap yard for a little extra cash. (Nothing wrong with that it you got a bunch of stuff)

My wife reads a forum that has a section called "trash to treasure" or something like that. You would not believe some of the neat stuff these ladies make out of the trash they pick up. They know the trash collection schedules for certain areas and get out there before the garbage trucks and pick up their finds.

I put one of the curb for someone to take but no one did.  So after a week I chained it to the tree using a logging chain..... it was gone the next morning.  Dee

Neat Idea CB, never thought about using it for a work bench.

Now, when I do get rid of a grill we set it by the raod and bet how long it takes for someone to get stop and get it.  It 15 to 25 mins then it gone.   Last grill I set out a guy in a pickup truch slammed on he brakes jumped out and tossed it in the bed and tore out.  I guess he thought I'd be mad if he took it??

Kimmie one that one, took 10 mins if I remember right  ;)
