Has anyone mailed fresh sausage?
« Reply #-1 on: November 23, 2013, 11:46:07 AM »
I am making a batch of kielbasa for Christmas and want to send some to my sister. The sausage will have cure #1 in it. I was going to vac seal and freeze it and when time to mail, I was going to wrap in foil and a couple of ice packs.
I was going to take it to the post office late in the day and ship it overnight to her (from AL to MA).
I was not planning on putting it into any type of cooler. The package will also include some smoked cheese and some of the dry pepperoni and salami.

Any recommendations? ( aside from sending it to your house  ;D  )

x2 on the Styrofoam and dry ice.

I've had your kielbasa from the SO. As long as you are at the post office... :)

It it weren't for the Kielbasa you could save some money and ship Express Mail.  But even with Cure #1 the Kielbasa is still a "keep refrigerated" product.  So, if sending it, I second (or third) freezing, insulating/packing with dry Ice & overnight shipping.

You can't use dry ice for shipping... it's considered "hazardous"

Styrofoam lined box or cooler frozen with ice packs overnighted it will be just fine. I have had shrimp mailed from texas that way and they arrived frozen solid still

I overnighted Nepas some Antelope Summer Sausage Last year. I sent it frozen, he said it was delicious. No special anything.

Snake River Farms shipped the Turtle's brisket to us for the Gathering in a styrafoam (or however you spell it) with their ice packs and it was still frozen when it got to GA from the NW.  Dee
