The second half showed a lot of heart by the  team, a lot of leadership on Johnny M's part, and a big belief in him by his team mates.  It will be interesting to see how well he does in the pros.  He's got a great arm and can scramble well.  The problem maybe the same that RG III ran into.  The players are so much bigger, stronger, faster, and hit harder than they did in the days of Roger Staubach and other quarterbacks of that type that the body can't take that punishment long.  The SEC had what I think is the greatest stable of quarterbacks this year that it ever has had at one time and it will be interesting to see how they do in the pros.

I'm watching the Baylor UCF game and just saw some fellow playing who has cornrows down to his  waist.  Unbelievable.

I think that game best characterized what one should expect when watching A&M football…..the unexpected! :D

Never boring - but always fully involved, win or lose. It was a heck of an offensive game. Both teams had swiss cheese defenses tho.

Manziel is a special talent ( I just wish he could learn some "class"…it may happen in time) but - I don't think he will fit into the pro typical offensive coordinator's scheme in the NFL.

*BUT* - I really believe that he could be THE top quarterback in the CFL, because of his Doug Flutie/Brett Farve style. Run and gun. In the CFL, you get 3 downs. So every down counts. The field is wider, so a fast QB can play that in his favor when he takes to his feet to move the ball. It is a faster paced game as well - and that up-tempo game seems to fit him too.

It really is a matter of "growing up" I think in whether he burns out or becomes great in the NFL.  The decision is totally up to him.  I think it depends where he ends up too.  Some teams just do better with players who need to find their inner adult.  I think the train wreck that is the Redskins is part of what is causing RG3's problems.

I say send him to Detroit for a year, if he makes it there then he proved he can play in the pro's.

With the emotional aspect of my mind - sure, I hope he makes it in the NFL….But the problem solving side of the brain - says that he will likely become the next Tim Tebow. Yes - talented, but not so much so in any one area. Great athlete -indeed! But, again, not the best arm or the best sped. Great"feel"  and practically clairvoyant as for when the defensive pressure is just a hair away form clobbering him - then he escapes and runs like a scalded squirrel thru traffic, to make a decent gain.

THAT style - in the NFL…will get you killed. Period. Don't think so? Look at the history of any QB that could run-n-gun…Heck, look at how beat up RG III is - right now. He will not last 2 more years in the NFL. He will be crippled by the age of 45, if he tries to continue playing like he is in college, and if they can't develop him into a pocket oriented QB.

That is why I really think the CFL offers the perfect match. The personnel in the CFL are - on average just a step or two behind/slower and closer tot eh very top flight of NCAA prime seniors. I think of CFL football as a league for guys that just barely missed the benchmarks in the NFL tryouts. Given a chance to use the CFL as a development league, some of them - a few - can move on to the NFL.

But, if you will take some time to watch CFL football ( I get all twitchy after the NFL season is over - and CFL starts up before our NFL does - so it is a "fix" ;D) you will quickly see how the league has evolved around the talent pool it has access to - and IMHO….the CFL play a more ideal game of football. Faster play, 3 downs and out, wider field, different end zone layout, and some rules that allow a team to kick the ball away - for points!!!!

Watch it, and broaden your understanding of "football" ;) :D

I don't think he'll end up being a Tebow. I think he has a pretty good arm. It gets lost in his scrambling, but he is pretty accurate and has the ability to put a soft touch on the ball. That said, his durability will be challenged more in the NFL.

He has a goof arm Gus, but - Not a Joe Namath" arm. I have not seen him put it not he numbers on an 80 yd. pass. 40-50 yards, ll day long. And - one could make the case that  - those kinds of passes win games. But, fans pay for seeing the "big pass" occasionally. Highlight films are resplendent with them. ESPN counts on having some for program openers. And - I think JM misses that mark.

And - you are right about durability. I think he is gonna get his clock cleaned  if guys like Troy Polamalu catch him prancing thru the secondary ;) ;D….
