Just bought a Traeger
« Reply #-1 on: July 31, 2014, 01:49:16 PM »
Went to Costco this morning to pick up a few items.  I had no intention of buying a grill; didn't know Costco had Traegers.  Traeger is having a series of roadshows at Costco across the country.  I have heard a lot about these grills here on LTTBBQ but had never seen one.  There is now one on my deck.  It is just my wife and I so I got the junior.   In fact, I bought two juniors.  I called my son and told him about the deal and he said to get him one also.  Each cost $299.99.  They "threw in" a 20 lb. of pellets and a cover for free with each grill.  Is this a decent deal?  Don't know if tonight's dinner will be cooked on it but I know for sure, that I'll use it tomorrow night.

Definitely a good deal. I bought mine last year at Costco. I have upgraded it some with the collapsible legs and a
Ortech TR100 controller. I took mine to the Fall Gathering last year and with the collapsible legs it fit nicely in my SUV.

You can't get hurt at that price. Like the other guys have said - you can up-grade it, and tinker a bit and have some real fun. It is the lowest cost way to find out if you like the principle of pellet grilling for sure!

Tee is right, you got a great deal.   If you factor in everything I spent on my homebuilt pellet grill you have less in yours and it's ready to go where as I'm still playing with mine trying to make it better.    ;)

Please, please, please, read my Pellet Cooking 101 articles:  http://www.letstalkbbq.com/index.php?board=59.0

You've got lots of potential but unless you understand what you've bought you may be disappointed.  I love pellets and pellet cooking but it is a process and not an event for the uninitiated.  PM if I can help.

My wife did the same - called me at work and told me to bring the pickup to Costco - she had purchased a Junior.  The selection of pellets was better and actually more cost effective at our local Fred Meyer.

We've used the Traeger for a couple of years for a variety of things and have found it very useful, especially in the winter

Beware, pellet cooking can be addictive.  Once you experience how easy it is to cook on a pellet grill, you will wonder why you didn't pull the trigger sooner.

I would recommend getting an Amazen smoker tube.  When it gets much colder out, you'll be able to cold smoke some cheese or fish.  You won't even have to turn your grill on for that.  Lots of cooking possibilities.  Search around the site for some cold smoking threads.  You'll get lots of ideas.

Great little pellet grill, I got the same Costco deal on my Junior a few months ago, $299.00 and it included the cover too.  I immediately swapped out the 3 position controller with the Trager digital controller and added the front shelf also.  Like others have said, pellet grilling gets addictive, it does produce some fantastic results.
