Many thanks, Smoker Pete...
« Reply #-1 on: August 11, 2014, 12:58:20 AM »
... for a most wonderful time enjoying good foods and making new friends!

Some time ago, Pete posted pictures and stories about crabbing in Winchester Bay, and because my wife Cheri and I had had just about all we could take with the heat on our prior vacation we decided to make the trek to the Oregon coast.  Of course we met up with Pete and his wife, and I can honestly say we had the best time we've had in a long time.  If any of you have the opportunity to meet Pete and his wife, take it!  Most gracious and generous almost to a fault, you won't meet a better couple.

Pete taught us how to crab properly, cook, and then clean them.  When we left he had given us the entire catch for the couple of days simply saying "we're still going to be here for a while..." - I'll not forget that generosity.

Pete hauling in a trap while Cheri looks on

Not too bad a catch...

... yep - it's a keeper

Time to cook...

... clean...

...pick...

... and make crab cakes

Looking at the pictures (over 700) helps me relive the great time we had - looking forward to you visiting us up in Idaho, Pete!

I look forward to meeting my LTBBQ brethren when I travel.  I told my wife that wherever we go, we need to plan some extra time for me to put names and faces together.  We have both had a great time whenever there is a get-to-gether.  She has even met Dee.  Whenever I read her one of Dee's witticisms, she now knows who I am talking about.  I think she accepted Dee right away because of the SEC connection, even though it is Alabama!

I need to figure out how to get way-out-west for a road trip.  I'm working on it.

Do y'all use chicken necks out there for crabbing?  Dee

I couldn't agree more with what pz said.  My wife and I had the opportunity to spend some time with Smoker Pete and his wife when they came through our town a few years ago.  You won't find any better folks.
