I'll try to get a pic at the birthday dinner we're going to tonight!   There's some local boys who are prior Marines that started a micro-brewery here a couple years back, so they're hosting a big shindig.  Bagpipes, beer and a bunch of Devil Dogs, can't go wrong!  ;)

I think this is the only shot I've got of James in uniform-- I'll have to hit his mom up for some more!   He'd long since outgrown those blues by the time we met.  ;D

Since it's a family friendly forum, I won't post it, but I do have one pic of him from the early 90's.... He's on a Zodiak waiting for a chopper, wearing regulation issue shorts that would make Daisy Dukes blush.

As a soldier, I always admired the esprit that the Marines developed in Every Marine...even though I continually reminded them that a Marine is lost if he gets more than a quarter of mile from the beach head... I tried very hard to develop that type of spirit in the soldiers of the Army but I guess we were just too big to do it for the entire organization.  However, it was just as strong in many of our units...one of which The Turtle was an important part.

I think that esprit de corps is always stronger in smaller units.  It certainly was in the Submarine Service.

So true - the boys become brothers that are often closer with one another than just about anyone else
