Thanks for that post Pappy.  I don't think there ever has been as great as Big Red.  He was so great and strong.  They say his heart was physically much larger than a normal horse.  He was so, so special.  Dee

WOW...After 37 years, the "computer age", genome mapping, MUCH more understanding of nutrition....and Secretariat bested American Pharaoh by 2.65 seconds.

And - the distance between Secretariat - and the rest of the pack in 1973 was HUGE.....

I was thinking in terms of comparing today's baseball players or boxers with the best from the past. I guess in horse racing you really can make a pretty apples to apples comparison.

Well... I think so. But, there is always the argument that Secretariat was a "fluke".... Like an 8th grader that is 6'-5" and wants to play basketball....

My favorite was always Affirmed and his 3 dramatic victories over Alydar.  Really exciting.

There are some that say Man O War was the greatest.
