Chicken,onions,chicks
« Reply #-1 on: March 31, 2016, 05:11:52 PM »
While I haven't posted many cooks lately I have been grillin.
I used my wok on the kettle a couple weeks back and made some nice red onions. The wok fits in the insert of the Weber pretty good.

Then thighs with a touch of maple on the gas grill. It hasn't been getting the attention the kettle has...

26 new chicks are growing up quick. Egg production should start late June I hope. The old hens are not happy about this development...

And last but not least we finally got Loquats this year... man are they good. If you pick them a little green they are tart and sweet and when really ripe just super sweet and delicious...

The red onions look great!!! I always wanted chickens for fresh eggs but always had a dog. I know my one now would be happy with a chicken now and then! :) Don

Mmm, those onions look really good!   Have fun with the chickies!   One of our duck just hatched out a handful of babies yesterday- they're so fun to watch when they're little!

Tell me about the Loquats-- I haven't heard of those before!   Are they like kumquats?

They are like mango flesh with skin like a peach without the fuzz, The trees are evergreen and bloom in the fall with fruit in the early spring. Bees love the blooms!
The blooms don't like it below about 29 for more than a day at a time and you may lose a few of them at that. The trees themselves can handle down to the teens for a couple days. Thank goodness we don't see that more than once every few years.
The trees in Fairhope down near the bay (Mobile Bay) typically are loaded with fruit every year. We are father out and a little higher. With the fields around we get a tough North wind a lot so we don't get as much fruit. We plan to plant a spot down in the woods where there is better cover. Hopefully they will do better there.
We like the trees by the house because they make a great privacy hedge from the road.
