Forget Arby's.....I have the meat!!!
« Reply #-1 on: September 01, 2016, 02:21:43 PM »
So, I had some time on my hands today and set about trying to find some shortribs to smoke. Not the little itty bitty ones I find at Kroger but some like they do in Texas! I ended up finding a place about an hour from where I was that sells only ALL NATURAL products and he had Two 2 packs of shorties (sub primal/uncut). So I make the drive and get there and find out that they're Creekstone Farms shorties! Woo Hoo! Creekstone is what Aaron Franklin uses these days so I was happy about that! While I was there I asked him about briskets, he has Meyer Angus Natural Beef briskets in. He says that's what he supplies for 2 big comps each year. They're labeled choice but he says that due to the way they're raised and the marbling in them, they're as good or better than 90% of store brand primes. Sales talk? Probably, but we shall see. I've tried SRF Wagyu, might as well try this Meyer Angus. I paid $6.99/lb for the brisket as well as the shorties. I wished I lived in Cattle Country, I'm sure I could've gotten this a lot cheaper. With that said, I think $6.99/lb is certainly better than the $10.69/lb for SRF!

More pics to come once they come off of the KBQ!!

You can forget Wendy's also, YOU GOT THE BEEF!
I can see that KBQ working overtime this great AMERICAN HOLIDAY WEEKEND!
I'm hoping that place is 1 hour West of you Jason.
I'd love to find some quality beef.
I asked the butcher at Costco in Montgomery about whole packer briskets and beef shortribs, told me if they don't sell a skid a week they can't carry it.
They used to have tri-tip all the time.  Not any more, I guess I should have bought it more often.
Where is this place?

I was just about to ask who/where.  That's not too far out of the way for me as I can sometimes get out that way while at work. They will be added to my list of area vendors for sure.

Thanks

Looks good, always great if you have a place to buy fresh meat with minimal processing. I am lucky to have a great butcher shop about 3 minutes away. Don
